(LEWISTON) – Emergency Vehicles of Maine, Inc., together with the Lewiston Development Corporation, held a groundbreaking ceremony on Thursday, Nov. 4, at 10 a.m. in the Foss Road Business Park in Lewiston.

EVM is constructing a new 18,000-square-foot facility and plans to hire five new employees. Established in 1996 by Chuck DeGrandpre and Ed Pollard, EVM is a manufacturer of fire trucks and rescue vehicles. It has fabricated, refurbished and performed upgrades on fire apparatus throughout New England.

The Lewiston Development Corporation is developing the $1.4 million project with Ernest Ray Construction Associates. The project will be financed by Androscoggin Bank.

“Demand for our services has been robust over the past few years, and has required us to seek a larger, newer facility from our Broad Street location in Auburn, explains Ed Pollard, co-owner. “This expansion should give us more space, and make it easier for us to more effectively manufacture and refurbish fire vehicles. It will also provide for quicker service to our customers.

Pollard says EVM technicians repair all types of cab and body damage, replacing corrosion or rust with new metal of the same thickness to weld into place. If the body is rusted beyond repair, EVM manufactures a new body to match the existing chassis dimensions, requiring a large amount of floor space.

EVM is also a Ferrara Fire Apparatus dealer serving Maine, New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and Vermont. Ferrara manufactures the finest quality apparatus built today, offering a wide array of pumpers, aerials, rescues and tankers.

Run by a 15-member board of directors, the Lewiston Development Corporation is a private, non-profit economic development organization established in 1952. Over the years, in partnership with the City of Lewiston and the Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council, LDC has helped create, market, manage, and sell properties, as well as serve as a community partner in a number of economic development projects.
