The Lewiston-Auburn Economic Growth Council will host its Annual Dinner and Business Forum on Tuesday, May 13, at Central Maine Technical College in Auburn. The highlight of the evening will be a performance by The Second City, an internationally renowned comedy troupe.
“Given these gloomy times of war, terrorist threats, and economic stagnation, we wanted to offer something unique that added a light-hearted feel to the evening,” explains Paul Badeau, LAEGC Marketing Director. “The program will provide a mix of business and entertainment. We thought the business community might welcome an opportunity to laugh a bit.”
Known for its hilarious sketch comedy and improvisations, The Second City has been the springboard for a virtual “Who’s Who” of comedians including John Belushi, Bill Murray, Joan Rivers, John Candy, Gilda Radner, Dan Aykroyd, Martin Short, Chris Farley, Mike Myers, Ed Asner, and countless others.
Last year’s LAEGC dinner drew a record 300 people who came to hear an address from White House Chief of Staff Andrew Card. Secretary Card spoke about the changes in government and the reaction of President Bush after the events of Sept. 11, 2001.
The annual meeting also features the Economic Achievement Awards presented by representatives of both the City of Auburn and the City of Lewiston to companies that have played an exceptional role in economic and community development and/or job creation. A brief overview of development projects currently in the works, along with a look at future developments, will be presented.
The evening begins with a cocktail reception at 4:30 p.m. and a sit-down dinner featuring filet mignon and poached salmon. The cost to attend the evening is $45, or a table of 8 for $315. The event is sponsored by UnitedKingfield Bank, with additional support from Oxford Networks, Garrand & Company, and Federal Distributors.
