The Hilton Garden Inn in Auburn’s Great Falls Plaza area is closer to completion as city officials, construction contractors, engineers, and other guests celebrated early construction work on the future 110-room hotel.

The facility, which will be nearly 68,000 square feet, is expected to be operational by early summer of 2003. The hotel’s developer Lee Griswold expected to be finished much of the preliminary construction by December. The project is a cornerstone of Auburn’s Downtown Action Plan for Tomorrow, an ambitious and largely successful initiative to revitalize Auburn’s downtown.

Aside from city funds, the project is being funded in part by loans from the Auburn Business Development Corporation and United Kingfield Bank.
