Company named to top 500 list

Inc. Magazine

Safe Handling, a company that specializes in repackaging freight and hazardous materials, has been ranked No. 418 on Inc. magazine’s list of America’s 500 fastest-growing privately held companies.

Inc. editor George Gendron, in a letter notifying Ford Reiche of Safe Handling’s inclusion in the list, said the company “joins an elite group of leading growth companies that are making a significant contribution to the U.S. economy.”

The listing will be seen by 2 million Inc. readers, Gendron said, including Safe Handling’s customers, vendors and business partners.

Safe Handling recently received a $90,000 State Department of Transportation grant to put in a 1,500-foot rail spur, leading to its Rodman Road facilities. Reiche said in late August that Safe Handling has experienced 1,700 percent growth in the past five years. He said the company employs 75 people here, but expects the number to reach 100 by year’s end.

The 2000 edition of Inc.’s 500 list continues the magazines’s 19-year tradition of acknowledging the success of America’s fastest-growing small businesses, Gendron said. Safe Handling joins Timberland, The Sharper Image, Patagonia, Microsoft, Intuit, Domino’s Pizza, Oracle, Morningstar and E-Trade among others in having been named to Inc.’s top 500 list.
