The Auburn Planning Board Tuesday unanimously approved General Electric’s planned $1.2 million expansion.
The move cleared the manufacturer to begin building a 13,600-square-foot addition, scheduled to start in the middle of August 2000.
As part of the project, GE would likely add 19 full-time jobs at the plant, located near the corner of Rodman and Poland roads.
The 1970s-era facility does what it calls “electroplating.” Small electrical items such as switch boxes and screws are coated using a system that creates an electric charge in the metal, magnetizing it to the metallic dust coating that spreads around.
City leaders said they are heartened by the move.
