YORK, PENNSYLVANIA: Emons Transportation Group, Inc. (The Nasdaq SmallCap Market™:EMON), today announced plans to expand the capacity of its intermodal terminal in Auburn, Maine, from 16 acres to approximately 35 usable acres. Emons made this announcement last week at a customer appreciation luncheon in Auburn, Maine, hosted by Zim-American Israeli Shipping Co., Inc. (”Zim-American”), a subsidiary of Zim Israel Navigation Company (”Zim)”. Zim was the first international steamship company to utilize the coordinated intermodal train service of Canadian National Railway (”CN”) and the St. Lawrence & Atlantic Railroad, including its Quebec affiliate (”SLR”), beginning October 1999. Zim has steadily increased in its container volumes through Emons’ Auburn, Maine, intermodal terminal with imports from Asia through the Port of Vancouver, which is served by CN.

In Auburn, Maine, on June 28, 2000, Mr. Shaul Cohen-Mintz, President of Zim-American, applauded the efforts of SLR, CN and Global Trade Associates for having the vision to create this new service by putting Auburn, Maine “on the international map.” Mr. Cohen-Mintz added, “The current service is working so well that Zim-American is currently studying the possibilities of expanding service through the Port of Halifax and Port of Vancouver in those cases where cost and service are advantageous.”

Robert Grossman, Chairman and President of Emons, commented, “We are pleased that Zim is a pioneer by using SLR’s intermodal service for international business to and from New England, and we look forward to helping Zim grow their business further.”

Robert Grossman added, “Steamship companies, which are party to a Vessel Sharing Agreement (”VSA”), recently gave notice that they will be cutting back direct service to the Port of Boston. This will compel shippers to seek alternate ports and routes. We will work with the steamship companies to route traffic through the Port of Halifax, via CN and SLR’s coordinated train service to Auburn, Maine. SLR is poised for any expansion resulting from this, as well as additional business from the other deep-water ports served by CN on the west coast of Canada and the Gulf of Mexico.
