Bates College ranks third among the most “wired” college campuses in the nation, according to the latest survey by Yahoo! Internet Life magazine.

Bates followed only Williams College of Williamstown, Mass., and Colgate University of Hamilton, N.Y. It’s an improvement from fifth place last year.

The Lewiston college got high marks for having 100 percent of its classrooms wired to the Internet, as well as having all dormitory spaces and offices and most laboratories hooked up. People can access the Net even from the tennis house at the new James Wallach Tennis Complex.

Bates also was recognized for its online registration service. From any campus computer, students can sign up for classes, add or drop them, see their class schedules and update them, and forward transcripts.

Other Maine colleges listed in the rankings were Colby at number 20 and Bowdoin at number 25.
